Welcome to BingeBusters

Welcome to BingeBusters a website where your voice is important.  In BingeBusters we aim to give a voice to the silent majority.

There are many websites that will give you information about alcohol, its effects and the recommended limits.  Some of these websites are excellent and some of them may even provide more of this kind of information and perhaps in a better way than you will find here.  That's ok, for that is not the purpose of this website!

The purpose of this website is to provide a platform where we (that means you, me, all of us) can create a plan of action to reduce the effect of binge drinking in Britain!

You are probably saying to yourself “Yea right, who wants to listen to what we’ve got to say”.

Well that is the power of democracy.  If we can get 100,000 people to register then it automatically triggers a question about what we are saying on the website in parliament.

So by registering through this website you can tell the government that you want something done about binge drinking in Britain.

What do we want to say to government?

That's where you come in.  We want you to help us to produce the message that we want government to hear.  They already know that Binge Drinking is a problem, that is not the issue.  What they don't seem to know is what to do about it.  We have some ideas and we have included them in this website but we want your opinion on these ideas and we also want your ideas.

This website is different

There are many websites out there full of information.  In fact now that the NHS has discovered the internet it seems that they are trying to fill it with information sites.  There are also campaigning websites.  BingeBusters has information and BingeBusters campaigns, so how are is that any different from all the other websites?

Although the information in BingeBusters initially comes from the creators, we hope that much (in fact most) of the content will eventually be submitted by you.  Most campaigning websites have an agenda and ask you to sign up to that agenda and endorse their solutions.  True we have an agenda (reducing binge drinking) but we want the solution to come from all of us and there are many ways that you can contribute to the website.  We feel that this is an issue that affects us all, in many ways, and that any solution will need to come from us all working together.

Another difference in the website is that sometimes we will use humour (eg youtube videos of comedians) to highlight an issue and make a point.  We are not trying to trivialise what is a serious issue, quite the reverse!  Sometimes humour can be a powerful tool in demonstrating the absurdity of a type of behaviour and our beliefs about it and when we feel that it is appropriate we will use it.

For example here is Jack Dee talking about being drunk
